This desk was intended to be a spring ’08 project, as I began building it in April of 2008. A very simple design, really, but a considerable amount of work, for all that. I even bought a new tool expressly for this job (and future jobs as well, naturally). The Festool Domino is an amazing tool, working as sort of a biscuit jointer and doweling tool all in one. Only it is better than a doweling tool, because a dowel is cylindrical and allows spinning if the glue lets-go. Not so with the domino, as the buscuit/dowels are shaped well… like dominoes.
So, I began the desk project in April of ’08 and completed it about 18 months later, as I began “Project Chocolate Jesus” in between starting and finishing the desk. I think I had all of it done but one of the two pedestals for over a year before finally building the second pedestal and assembling the whole thing.
